Over a hundred Helsinki taxi drivers took to the streets, demanding higher fares, reduced company commissions and clearer pricing policies.

The rally drew more than 100 drivers who gathered in central Helsinki on Thursday, waving banners and honking horns to draw attention to their grievances. Organizers say the protest reflects growing frustration among drivers who claim the current system erodes their earnings.

Participants called for a jump in ride prices to offset rising operating costs, a cut in the share that ride‑hailing platforms deduct as fees, and a more transparent pricing algorithm that lets both drivers and passengers see how fares are calculated. "We need a fair deal that reflects the real cost of running a taxi,” said a driver at the demonstration, emphasizing the need for clear, predictable earnings.

City officials have acknowledged the concerns and promised to review the existing regulations, while ride‑hailing companies have not yet commented. The protest highlights a broader debate over how best to balance consumer affordability with decent incomes for professional drivers in the capital.
